Joseph Parry (Cyfarthfa Castle Museum & Art Gallery)
Joseph Parry was the composer of one of the most famous Welsh tunes - Myfanwy - and one of the best loved hymns - Aberystwyth. He was born in Merthyr Tydfil in 1841.

Joseph worked in the mines in Merthyr from the age of 9 until his family moved to America in 1854, where they lived in a Welsh community in Pennsylvania.  He came back to Britain to study music and became a famous composer on both sides of the Atlantic, composing  10 operas, 3 oratorios, 5 cantatas and many other orchestral works, songs and anthems including 'Myfanwy' and 'Aberystwyth'.
