Christmas is so much more than 1 day - it's 12 Days of family fun! Here’s a variety of #ValleysTwixmas ideas for you all to enjoy!

1st Day of Christmas – 25 December

Enjoy Christmas Day with your family – but you can still get out for a walk and some fresh air! If you’re lucky enough to live in The Valleys then enjoy one of the great walks along the canal or through a beautiful park; make sure that you have plenty of room for a stunning Christmas Dinner. Looking for a bigger challenge – it has to be The 55 Porthcawl Christmas Morning Swim – fun and an opportunity to raise money for charity! 

2nd Day of Christmas – 26 December

Now is definitely the time to relax and try out some of those family presents. Did anybody have a new bike, scooter or even a remote control car? Yes – then get out on the great network of safe, off road cycle paths – download a map of your local routes or scoot around Parc Bryn Bach! For those who have booked a swim at PontyLido this Boxing Day - have a very special day! 

3rd Day of Christmas – 27 December

A Twixmas tradition has to be a visit to the Panto – how about Aladdin at the Blackwood Miners' Institute, or Snow White at The Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl

4th Day of Christmas – 28 December

Get out and enjoy some fresh air – discover The Keepers of Bryngarw are the mythical guardians of the park’s woodlands, meadows, gardens and river. They are the ancient keepers of the story of the land but they have fallen asleep. Start off at Bryngarw Country Park  and follow the trail. 

5th Day of Christmas – 29 December

Let’s go below or above ground today! A climb high at The Summit Centre, Trelewis or Go Vertical at Cwmbran Stadium are both great for letting off steam, whilst a trip to Big Pit Mining Museum, Blaenavon will take you deep underground and let you discover real stories about the history of The Valleys and the people that made this area great. 

6th Day of Christmas – 30 December

It’s time to get out and explore a castle!! Yes – why not visit Caerphilly Castle and discover the story of the leaning tower (that out leans Pisa) followed by a warming hot chocolate at the Visit Caerphilly Centre. Or take a walk around Cyfarthfa CastleOgmore Castle or even Morlais Castle high above Merthyr Tydfil! 

7th Day of Christmas – 31 December

It’s New Year’s Eve – so it has to be a trip to discover who is this year’s Mystery Runner at Nos Galan Road Race

8th Day of Christmas – 1 January

Now – let’s get to grips with our New Year’s Resolutions – who’s for a run or walk around a lake – how about Parc Penallta, Barry Sidings or Garn Lakes! Alternatively, get some sea air and enjoy a walk along the Wales Coastal Path at Porthcawl

9th Day of Christmas – 2 January

Let’s get out on the bikes again! How about a bit of mountain biking – at BikePark Wales or Cwmcarn Forest?

10th Day of Christmas – 3 January

The Valleys have great walk routes to enjoy – why not Escape to Caerphilly Mountain (enjoy a warming drink or lunch with great views) or explore The Rhondda by downloading a few of these great walk routes and discover some of the history of these Valleys? It goes back much further than the discovery of coal! 

11th Day of Christmas – 4 January

The holidays are nearly over and many of us are back in work, so let’s get planning next weekend – how about visiting your local museum – there’s great stories to be uncovered at Porthcawl MuseumPontypridd MuseumWinding HousePontypool MuseumAbertillery Museum or Cyfarthfa Castle to name just a few! 

12th Day of Christmas – 5 January

It’s the last day of Christmas – so today has to be about taking down the tree and packing away the decorations. Now let’s get planning for the spring – there’s loads to get out and to get involved with all across The Valleys.
