Nye & Jennie

Aneurin Leisure and Theatr na nÓg are delighted to have worked together on this co-production of Nye and Jennie.

The play spans the story of the partnership of Aneurin Bevan and Jennie Lee and their life together, from flatmates, their marriage in 1934, to Nye’s death in 1960, marking notable events in their public and private life along the way.

Bevan will be well known to most people as the founder of the NHS and what better time to celebrate his achievement with the 70th anniversary of the NHS in 2018.

Jennie Lee, born in Lochgelly, Fife, became the youngest woman at the time to be elected to Parliament, before she was old enough to vote. As the first Arts Minister she left a legacy of her own including the foundation of the Open University in 1969.
