Set in the shadows of one of Europe's largest castles, the town of Caerphilly comes to life as people of all ages come to The Big Cheese, an extravaganza of street entertainers, living history encampments, music, dance, traditional funfair, folk dancing, falconry, fire eating, minstrels, troubadours and much more.

The Big Cheese is a must-see attraction for all visitors. Portraying the history, heritage and culture of Caerphilly, the 2010 event attracted over 80,000 people. Families from all over the country flocked to Caerphilly to experience this fun filled programme of activities and entertainment.

The Big Cheese weekend is a FREE event and over 80,000 people are expected again in 2011.

Road Directions

Exit junction 32 of M4, take the A470 then A469 and follow the signs for Caerphilly

In order to avoid congestion at this year's Big Cheese event, please use the park and ride scheme in operation.

On Friday 29th July, the Park and Ride scheme will operate from St.Ilan School (Overflow Park and Ride). On Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July, the Park and Ride will operate from St.Cenydd School (Main Park and Ride) and St. Ilan School.

For both car parks follow the temporary signs from the A470, A469 and A468.

Main Park and Ride at St.Cenydd School has a fee of £2.00
Overflow Park and Ride at St.Ilan School has a fee of £4.00
