Type: Town
Neath is a historical market town and the central point for the five valleys. Upon arrival, your first sight will be of St David’s Church clock tower. The church, a major landmark in the town, was the place where worldwide star Katherine Jenkins mastered her voice as a choir girl.
Situated next to the church are the elegant Victoria Gardens, an area that combines a 19th century bandstand with a circle of standing stones, which were erected for the National Eisteddfod in 1918.
The town offers a range of shops, cafes and public houses, and a visit is not complete without experiencing the indoor market, selling fresh produce and traditional goods. It’s also the perfect place to sample a warm Welsh lamb baguette.
If you are visiting on a Saturday, then you might be lucky enough to watch the Welsh All Blacks. Neath RFC was formed in 1871 and is the oldest rugby club in Wales.
