Caerphilly (Caerffili in Welsh) is a major town in the county borough of Caerphilly, located at the bottom of the Rhymney Valley. The town gives its name to Caerphilly cheese, which originated in the area, and hosts a major festival each summer called The Big Cheese.

Caerphilly town, popular with visitors and locals, has a lively, busy shopping centre with a wide selection of places to eat, drink, shop and visit. There is also an excellent Visitor Information Centre located opposite the magnificent Caerphilly Castle.

Caerphilly Castle, built between 1268 and 1271, is the largest castle in Wales. This Medieval Concentric Castle covers an area of 30 acres, making it one of the largest castles in Europe. It is often the backdrop to events held in Caerphilly and can be seen from many viewing points in the surrounding coutryside.

Caerphilly is only 15 minutes from Cardiff Junction 32 of the M4

Public Transport Directions

Caerphilly has two railway stations; Caerphilly at the southern end of the town near the shopping area, and Aber in the western part of the town, both on the Rhymney Line serving Cardiff.

A regular bus service is provided to and from Caerphilly to Cardiff and other Valleys towns.
