What's On in the South Wales Valleys
We enjoy each other’s company in The Valleys.
Our communities have always nurtured a strong and vibrant cultural life, born of shared experiences in the industrial days of old. The Valleys of south Wales are still a place where people matter – and a place where people get together for all kinds of festivals and events. There’s a full programme, from our famous Nos Galan Road Race which welcomes in the New Year to atmospheric Christmas festivities. In the months in between you’re more than welcome to come along to craft fairs, heritage days and historical re-enactments, and festivals that celebrate everything from food to literature, music to walking in our Great Outdoors.
All together now
That’s just part of our rich culture. Many Valleys towns have their own theatres an
d arts centres which stage big-name productions as well as local entertainment.
Our male voice choirs, perhaps the purest expression of the Valleys’ collective spirit, are still in fine voice, their sweet, soaring harmonies guaranteed to touch your emotions. Catch a performance or go along to one of their midweek rehearsals.
And we’re proud to say that in 2010 Blaenau Gwent plays host to one prestigious festival in particular – the National Eisteddfod, Wales’s most important cultural gathering, which travels to a different venue each year. In 2010 it comes with a special Valleys flavour, so don’t miss it.
