Local Events

Some of our most genuinely entertaining events are the local, grass roots ones. You don’t need big names and blockbuster spectacles to enjoy yourself, especially if the events play to the strengths of our towns and villages, where community spirit is still highly valued.
From January to December there’s always something happening, whether your interests run to music, art, sport, craft, history or walking. Interested in attending a gala day at a steam railway, or a talk on flower arranging? Want to say hello to Santa deep down in a coalmine or find out what Caerphilly’s Big Cheese is all about? You’re never far from something that tickles your fancy.
Venues like the Cwmcarn Scenic Forest Drive are busy with a range of events throughout the year, including an annual Christmas Fayre. Seasonal events abound, with Bonfire Night firework displays, creepy Halloween evenings and Christmas markets to be found the length and breadth of the Valleys. Historic sites like Caerphilly Castle regularly stage medieval re-enactments and battles where visitors can see how people once lived – and died. The arts are also well represented, with many local theatres and art centres playing host to the best in comedy and music. And don’t forget those midweek male voice choir rehearsals – many are happy to have you along.
