Attractions in the South Wales Valleys

Blaenavon signHow long have you got? The Valleys in South Wales have more tourist attractions than you have time to visit.

It’s one of the many unexpected things about The Valleys. Did you know, for example, that we’re home to one of Europe’s biggest and best medieval castles (it’s smack in the middle of Caerphilly – you can’t miss it?). Or the scenic Brecon Mountain Railway a narrow-gauge railway where you get on in Merthyr Tydfil and get off in the heart of the Brecon Beacons? Or our very own World Heritage Site at Blaenavon, an equivalent of the Taj Mahal and Great Wall of China.

Visiting Time

There’s an underground dimension to it all at Blaenavon when you take the mine tour at Big Pit National Coal Museum. Big Pit is one of many profound, must-visit reminders of our industrial past scattered across the Valleys from Merthyr Tydfil to Maesteg. Ours is a hugely powerful, influential heritage – you can’t say you know Wales unless you’ve eNeath Abbeyxperienced the Valleys.

We also have many family attractions, adventure parks and museums where you’ll be amused, bemused and highly entertained. Some are highbrow, others are great fun, some are family-focused and others are more for the culture vultures out there. So if it rains (which it does occasionally, but not as much as you might think), you’ll find more than enough to see and do. And if it doesn’t, you’ll want to visit them anyway.
