Getting Valleys’ kids into sport

The Primaryship is a new initiative, supported by Cardiff City and Swansea City Football Clubs, offering free sports coaching to Primary Schools across The Valleys.

From January 2011, the initiative will provide free sports coaching to 80 primary school classes to help get Valleys kids more into sport and encourage them to be more active, and your class could be a part of it…

By nominating your local Valleys Sporting Hero, your class could be among the 2,000 children between the ages of 5 and 11 who will receive one hour of sports coaching a week for six weeks from Community Foundation coaching teams. Plus there will be special appearances from Cardiff City and Swansea City Football Clubs.

The sessions which will involve a variety of  sports will take place weekly over a period of six weeks in 2011.

With many classes already signed up to receive the hour of coaching per week for six weeks ahead of Easter, 40 spaces remain for schools hoping to take part in the training sessions later in the year.

How to qualify...

To be in with a chance of being part of ‘The Primaryship,’ school classes need to:

  • Nominate your local Valleys Sporting Hero (These heroes can be from your school or local community - that’s someone who has shown outstanding commitment and made a real difference to helping children or young people take part in sport)
  • Inlcude a photograph and/or video clip of your local hero that can be used on the Valleys Local Heroes Wall of Fame.
  • email us at contactus@thevalleys.co.uk with an explanation of why you’ve chosen your Valleys Sporting Hero and what makes them an inspiration to others. You can also post the information on our LoveTheValleys Facebook and Twitter pages.
  • include the name and address of your school and your class name
  • include a contact name and daytime telephone number
