The Official Valleys Ice cream

Taffy Afal is the Official Valleys Ice cream

'Taffy Afal', created by 46 year old mum, Sue Walker from Cardiff, hit the production line as the Official Valleys Ice cream at Subzero Factory in Rhondda on 27 August, and will be distributed to nearly 60 cafés, restaurants and shops across south Wales over the following week.

After receiving over 100 ice cream flavour suggestions from the wonderfully weird ‘Welsh Steak and Rhymney Ale, to the culturally refined, ‘Wimberries and Heather Honey,’ 'Taffy Afal' was one of three shortlisted ice cream flavours to be made available as tasters at this year's National Eisteddfod in Ebbw Vale and captured the imagination and taste buds of visitors, receiving 43% of the votes.

Star of BBC One's 'Over The Rainbow', Sophie Evans, was at the launch of the Official Valleys Ice cream as 'Taffy Afal' was chosen over 'Pice ar y Maen' (Welsh cake) and 'Black Gold' (chocolate with honeycomb pieces) to become the Official Valleys Ice cream.
