Type: Museum
The Winding House in New Tredegar is the museum for the Caerphilly County Borough. Newly opened, with an exciting and varied exhibitions and events programme, fully equipped research room, cafe and shop.
The Winding House tells the history of the County Borough from its first inhabitants to the present day - from the Celts and the Romans, to Castles, Cavaliers and the Industrial Revolution!
Our new exhibition, The Pictures and "the 'stute" - Nights out in the Valleys looks back to the golden era of entertainment, when nearly every town and village across Caerphilly County Borough had its own cinema, dance hall or miners’ institute ("the 'stute") which would be packed on Saturday evenings as local people sought a good night out after a hard week at work.
Through a wide range of objects - many on loan from local people - images and fun interactives, including dance hall music and a recreated Picture Palace, the exhibition takes visitors back in time to experience the hey dey of entertainment.Try out some fancy footwork, settle into the back row of the Pictures and find out what it takes to be a Box Office hit!
The exhibition opens on the Spring Bank Holiday, 30th May and will last for 12 months. Admission is FREE!
