It’s not something that immediately springs to mind when you think of the Valleys. But you’d be surprised by what’s on offer here.

Cottages, apartments and lodges, often in the most scenic of locations, have been beautifully and sensitively converted into self-catering properties. If they’re historic – as many of our canalside and ironworkers’ cottages are – they’ll usually retain their original features while offering all contemporary comforts and facilities.

Self-catering is so flexible – it’s ideal for families and couples who like to come and go as they please, and also prefer the extra living space that these properties usually provide in comparison with hotels or guesthouses. Self-catering is flexible in other ways too – you can book in for a few days or a few weeks. And, of course, it’s very easy on the pocket. Don’t worry of you don’t fancy the cooking. You’ll find plenty of pubs, country inns and restaurants on the doorstep, along with cyclepaths and forest walks to build up that appetite.
