Wales Valleys Walking Festival - Coity Mountain Walk

About

Leaving the Blaenavon World Heritage Centre and following the line of the railway to Garn Lakes, then climbing Coity to cross open moorland - the haunt of Yr Hen Wrach y Bryniau (The Hag of the Hills) - to descend via Cwm Ffrywd to Varteg and thence back to base.

The walk passes a number of former mines, and we'll hear some of their tragic history, as well as the black humour (Hiwmor y Glowyr) with which the colliers made life bearable.

Walk starts at 10:00 and will run until around 15.30 - bring a packed lunch. Suitable footwear essential.

The terrain in some places is steep and uneven, with several gates and stiles on each route which are unsuitable for wheelchairs, buggies and prams.

Please make adequate preparations for refreshments. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the walk you are taking part in – we cannot predict the weather.

We reserve the right to cancel or change any walk in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
